What Is A Podcast?

A podcast is an internet era term for an audio-based broadcast that can either be downloaded or streamed. Usually a podcast is hosted by one or more people and deals with a particular topic or series of topics, with episodes made available at frequent, regular intervals.

Best of all, most podcasts are completely free!

HOW DO I LISTEN TO A PODCAST?

You don’t necessarily need a special program or application in order to listen to a podcast. For instance, the Celluloid Junkies podcast can be streamed online while your web browser is open – to try this, just click the ‘Episodes’ link above (or here), and click the play button in the embedded audio player of the episode that interests you. You should hear it almost immediately, depending on the speed of your connection.

HOW TO SUBSCRIBE

Alternatively, you may choose that you enjoy podcasts enough that you’ll get a dedicated program to listen to them in.

APPLE, ITUNES & THE PODCASTS APP

Apple computers come with iTunes pre-installed; just choose ‘Podcasts’ from the drop-down menu, and then browse the ‘Store’ to find some that interest you. Likewise, Apple’s iPhone comes with the Podcasts app pre-installed; open it, then click the ‘Featured’ or ‘Search’ icons to begin browsing. To access Celluloid Junkies in either of those programs, simply click this link.

ANDROID & WEB BROWSERS

For those of you on other computers and phones, we suggest either streaming directly from the web, or doing a search of the store on your device (likely the Google Play Store on Android devices) for podcatchers (an application that will allow you to browse and subscribe to podcasts). For those listening on the web, click this link to subscribe; for those on Android, click this link.

We hope this helps!
